I completed this niche book March 31, but then took a trip to Seattle to see family, so am posting it now. Let me know what you think! (You can also view this in a separate folder, as a slide show or individual images.).
I carved it from a 1500+ page book that had been my mom’s- some junker that she started in 2007, but never finished. I made the shelves and drawers from book board (like davey board). The image on the inside front is a laser copy of an engraving in an 1869 Peterson’s Magazine bound year that I have had for over 40 years… (similar to a Godey’s Lady’s Book).
The glass vials are from Lee Valley – I don’t know if they still have them- I got them years ago. I filled them with inks, acrylic paints and glitters, as well as raw sugar for the ‘cocaine’. Some of the labels are from Ten Two Studios. The metal closure is a silver bracelet my mom bought in Mexico about 1941 – it has never been polished and is too small for me to wear…so it is part of this book of ‘treasures’. The patent medicine ads and other newsprint are original New York Times print from and 1867 and 1859 newspapers.
