The PoorHouse Book Sculpture

I ‘creARTed’ this book sculpture on a whim last night.  It’s an old thin book that I completely wrapped in glittery heat fusible plastic of red, orange, fuschia and blue, heated with my heat gun, then added tons of clear UTEE on top of the glittery covering.

The ‘Poor House’ name comes from the key hanging (from an old Underwood typewriter element- it’s the little switch to select red or black typewriter ribbon.) The key was in a bunch of junk in my mom’s desk drawer when I cleaned it out. (I NEVER get rid of keys). :)

The computer circuit speaks for itself ; the’ limbs’ are also from the old typewriter-they’re the old metal bars that typed the letters by striking the keys- – do you hear the clickity-clack of old typewriters in your head yet?? The postage stamp was a perfect fit to finish off this ‘poor’ person.  The book is 8″H x 5.5″W and about 5/8″ thick.  It has a metal hanger affixed to the back and currently hangs in our family room.

How fun! I still have a functioning typewriter, but think I need to add a little ink to the ribbon. Need a brainstorming session for using keys, I have a box full of them. My daughter use to collect the mistakes from the nearby hardware store. She also took all the ones for the science lockers when the school was torn down. She knew I would do something with them. Once in a while I color a few with metal ink and add to a project.
Do you sell some of your art? I have been thinking of starting an Etsy but each my things is pretty one of a kind, like yours, a real ecclectic mix of things. Don’t know if people are looking for that.
Thanks for sharing you inspire me.
